The song is called Kokoriko Bushi, meaning tune of a kokoriko—an ancient string instrument. The artist is Japanese electro-pop collective Omodaka of Far East Recordings; the animation is directed by Teppei Maki.

i decided last week to dye anything i owned that was light colored Black. This of course would have been a fabulous idea had i actually finished the process. But to my dismay the clothes are still sitting in a tiny little trashcan looking well actually more like a tie-dye experience i had when i was 8 then solid dark black.In true Ty form i somehow managed to end up dyeing everything very well except for the clothes. I have ended up with a fabulous ring on my hardwood floors, stains on my porcelain stove top and the worst of all black hands because i refused to walk right down the stairs and across the street to get a pair of gloves. 

I don’t know what it is about me that refuses to take the needed precautions in life so that i don’t end up causing a horrific mess and not to mention hours of extra work. I just get so excited about my projects and jump in full sail ahead.  Usually i find it hysterical that this is the way i function but i do admit I have been slightly embarrassed about the state of my hands this week. I guess i figured burning and sawing them daily was not hideous enough because now they are stained an awfully dark shade of gray. It is as if my hands are dead, mangled and truly not extensions of my living self. Oh well, maybe now that I am thirty I can try to work on this character trait but for now I will copy the directions for dying with Rit  so that maybe next time the directions will be embedded in my brain.

This is the best technique for dyeing small or delicate items. 

		Fill sink or bucket with enough hot water for fabric to move freely. Remember: Use 1 package of RIT powder or 1/2 bottle of RIT liquid dye and 3 gallons of hot water for each pound of fabric. Pre-dissolve powder in 2 cups of hot water. Add pre-dissolved powder or liquid to dye bath. Stir to mix.
		Wet fabric in hot water. Uncrumple and add to dye bath.
		Stir constantly (back and forth, up and down) for 10 to 30 minutes.
		Rinse in warm water, then gradually cooler water until water runs clear. Wash item in warm water with mild detergent and rinse thoroughly in cool water.
		Dry item in dryer or air dry.
		Clean sink or bucket immediately with chlorine bleach or scrub with chlorine-based powder, liquid, or gel cleanser.

Today while i was waiting at my local coffee shop for my usual double americano with whip cream i glanced down at the front page of the New York Times and immediately i was drawn in.  The image on the front of todays paper gripped at my heart so deeply that i immediately begin to weep. This man is standing with his granddaughter at the 7 year anniversary/ memorial of 9/11. You can see the grief all over his face as he mourns the loss of his firefighter son. 

I am usually drawn to peoples emotions and i gauge the way i walk through life based on how it seems the people around me feel. I was moved so deeply by this image because the story it told was as raw and true as they come. I could not control the flood of tears that streamed down my face because ultimately i felt the grief that this man was suffering from. The tremendous loss of a son is undeniable but this man’s emotions were written all over his face and then captured on film.

Today was a sad day. I found out that one of my most favorite artists, dreamers, doers passed away.  Her multitalented approach to her art always made my mouth drop to the floor with unbelief and true heart felt inspiration.  Nagi Noda has left behind an impressive legacy of bizarre and playful work that leaves us all wondering why do the good ones leave so soon.

“The world of Japanese artist/designer/director Nagi Noda is both whimsical and strange. It involves a collection of half-panda stuffed animals, pigtails that swarm around a model’s head like butterflies, and aerobicizing poodles led by a poodle-like human instructor in a surreal short film called, simply, Fitness Video. This video directed by Nagi Noda, is unbelievable and shows the depth of her artistic brilliance.

It also spurred a campaign for coke and the video is wonderful. Never wanted a coke so much as i do now. 

Of course this is an hysterical video also directed by Nagi. I just couldn’t leave it out.

Her website is amazing and the pics are never ending of all her talent. I couldn’t leave without one last photo of her infamous hair hats… I love them and I love her.

It never fails. Just when i think i have got this whole jewelry gig down i become my alter ego … Ty the damager. Usually when this happens it starts slowly and then i snowball causing physical harm to not only my jewelry but any appendage i have not managed to hide from the flame in question.

It’s quite ridiculous actually. In one day, Friday, i managed to somehow burn the hell outta my arm with the mini rubber chicken i am casting into one fancy chicken army.(yes, more about this feat of artistic brilliance at another time.)  If i actually took fabulous photos i would show you all proof that a cooked chicken was in the vecinity of my forearm. Don’t laugh too hard but yes i will forever have a plucked chicken scar on my arm now.  Guess I can cross that off my tattoo list. 

Within minutes i became side tracked by the never-ending banter and chatter that invades my intensely needed quiet time at the jewelry studio, and somehow managed to put my sweet little pinky finger in the line of fire quite literally. You have no idea what pain is until you burn the padding of your pinky while trying to solder a tiny little bezel on an oh so uncooperative pendant. At this point i have used my supply of aloe vera rations for the day and am now forced to submerse my wound in an ice bath..wah wah. As i tend my wound i start to question what i was even thinking joining this hazardous career path. Didn’t I remember the part about my personality that is accident prone. 

With the pinky and forearm bandaged nicely i decide that the flames are way to hot for me on this day and head back to my bench to focus on something a bit less dangerous.  It is 2:00 at this point and i have spent most of my day either cussing with a vengence, throwing my melted pendants and bezels and last as mentioned above nursing my wounds. Mainly my ego has been shot to hell and i know that sanding and polishing is probably the most healing and safe venture for now.  Within i kid you not five minutes i have somehow managed to sand right through my thumb with my flex shaft and i am bleeding all over the gold ring I have worked for weeks to finish.

Yes, i called it quits at this point and headed right over to my new favoritest hair salon called Modish where i spoiled myself with a new cut and outrageously bright highlights. Nothing like a new do to end an all around dead end day!

not that i don’t find inspiration in all the amazing women i see out there i just appreciate once in awhile when you see a child in black.. and the mom in even more black.
